The first annual DV + Health Care Symposium was held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, 8:30am to 4:00pm, at The California Endowment Center in Los Angeles, hosted by the DVHC Leadership Council in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Office of Women's Health and Domestic Violence Council.
Over 225 health care and DV advocacy program professionals—providers, clinicians, advocates, executive leaders, administrators, social workers, case managers, and others—across Los Angeles County attended and stayed until the very end! The event was also live streamed, and there were 111 virtual attendees.
Symposium learning objectives
By the end of the symposium, participants will be able to:
Identify domestic violence (DV) as a public health issue and important social determinant of health;
Understand the health impacts of violence;
Promote cross-sector collaboration between domestic violence advocacy programs and health care;
Improve early identification, DV response and survivor health within health care and DV advocacy program settings;
Foster networking opportunities between health care and DV service providers in Los Angeles.
Beyond Silos features health care and advocacy leaders who are pioneering advancements in cross-sector collaboration between the health and domestic violence (DV) sectors to promote prevention and early identification of DV; improve the safety net for survivors and their health needs; and promote systems change across Los Angeles in a way that better addresses DV as a public health issue.
The Leadership Council, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Office of Women's Health and Domestic Violence Council Health Committee are pleased to coordinate Beyond Silos to promote cross-sector collaboration and best practices across Los Angeles County.
